What is the difference between intestinal capsules and gastric capsules?

Update:14 Feb 2022

There is a big difference between intestinal capsules and gastric capsules. First, enteric-coated capsules resist stomach acid, but not the digestive juices mixed in the intestines. So intestinal capsules will dissolve in the intestines, while gastric capsules are not acid-resistant, so they will dissolve in the stomach.

Gastric capsules usually dissolve within half an hour, while enteric-coated capsules usually dissolve after 2 hours, as the human stomach takes 2 hours to empty.

Plant enteric-coated capsules avoid the risks associated with animal proteins, ensure the green safety of the capsules, and provide a new way for enteric coating of special drugs (which are prone to cross-linking and therapeutic reactions with protein substances). It expands the scope of capsules in the field of medicine, provides a more convenient, fast, safe and effective solution for the management of special drugs, and provides the possibility for pharmaceutical companies to produce special types of enteric-coated drugs quickly, in large quantities and at low cost.

Raw materials:
Gastric-soluble coating materials include: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC), type IV acrylic resin, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polyvinyl acetal diethylaminoacetic acid ( AEA).
Enteric coating materials include: shellac, cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP), acrylic resins (I, II, III), hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate (HPMCP).
